Take Back Your Power

Have you ever looked a lion in the face? The thought alone sends an intense energy through my body. That power is accessible to all of us through our connection with the universe. It’s within us.

Sometimes we forget the presence of this power or we give too much of it away. If you’re feeling drained, you’re not alone. There have been times in my life when I’ve struggled to maintain boundaries and this year illuminated the areas that still need some work. And that’s okay! Self-criticism taps and drains our energy too. It takes courage to cut ourselves some slack and accept (and love) our humanity. Leo season is a great time to take a step back and observe the words we speak to ourselves.

Many people have told me they feel like they need to recharge and reclaim their energy. Our energy is so precious. Leo season came at an ideal time to remind us how worthy, capable, and strong we are. Furthermore, it reminds us that we have the power to create our own destiny.

Our energy and vitality partly come from our ability to breathe deeply. Thus, we can reclaim our energy by practicing a simple breath-work exercise. It can be helpful to think of the deep, bold breath of a lion. Quick and shallow breathing can create anxiety and depression, and make us feel ungrounded in our lives. These drains don’t serve you and your life’s purpose. Remember, you are a sacred being capable of living your life with power and grace. You are strong and capable like a lion.

Breathe into Your Power
(5-5 Equal Breathe)

Take each inhale and exhale with the slow, steady confidence of lion energy. Place one hand on your belly and the other on your chest. Let each inhale fill your belly with that energy and let each exhale send gratitude to the universe. Count to five for each slow inhale and exhale. Do this for 1-10 minutes per day.

Inhale 5… 4… 3… 2... 1… Exhale 5… 4… 3… 2… 1…

Tiger’s Eye

You can use Tiger’s Eye to help you feel calm and confident. Visualize this stone piercing through any leftover fog that might be keeping you from seeing your self-worth. In clearing the fog, Tiger’s Eye can lead you to the self-awareness you need for setting boundaries and balancing your emotions. It can be helpful to place the stone on your navel for this practice.  To learn more about Tiger’s Eye and how to use it, click here.

Grounding

If you have access to a natural setting, you can try putting your bare feet on the earth for additional grounding. This is especially helpful if you’re having trouble navigating out of your own mind. I look at anxiety, depression, and other struggles with mood as messengers telling us we need grounding. It’s good to check in to make sure our energy is equally balanced in Air and Earth. That physical connection your body makes with the earth allows for recharging. I like to think of myself as a battery, tapping into the earth’s unlimited source of renewable and life-giving energy.

It’s time to reclaim your power!

What is one thing you can do today to reclaim your power/energy?
